St. Bernardus Prior 8 330ml, 8% - Belgium

This bottle is from 2008.

Very dark brown color after all the settlement ended up in the glass. Topped with a one finger creamy, beige head.

Sweet and floral aroma, some caramel with notes of spices.

Totally unexpected taste. Roasted malts, sweet caramel, mild spices and a tad yeasty.

Another complex beer from St.B, which reveals more characteristics after half of a glass.

  1. I actually think that I prefer St Bernardus 8 to St Bernardus 12. The ester profile in the yeast in this beer is just spectacular with its notes of wild strawberries and all other different sorts of red berries. And the carbonation is fantastic as well - it's like drinking an effin' cloud!

  2. Yeah I did like the 8 more than the 12. Carbonation has a lot to do with it. You can't really enjoy a brew if the carbonation is too "distracting" for you. Men men, alla tre satt fint ändå. :)
